Imaging leads the way
Medical imaging is today the largest and best known field of application for artificial intelligence in Chinese healthcare. The AI-based imaging system Tencent developed in 2017 is used to screen for several diseases.
The reason imaging came first is practical: it produces large volumes of labelled data in a consistent format, which is exactly what these systems need to learn. Fields where data is sparser or less standardised have moved more slowly.
