BULO: an inhaler that tells you the state of your lungs

Built by three former Samsung engineers, this pocket device lets anyone measure their lung capacity. Breathe in, breathe out, and read the results on your phone.

As the name suggests, Breathings is a startup specialising in respiration. Founded by three former Samsung engineers, it has developed a small device that lets anyone measure their own lung capacity.

Named BULO — which means "do not grow old" in Korean — the device looks like a small inhaler, similar to those used for asthma. Using it could not be simpler: breathe in, then breathe out into it, and BULO analyses your breathing.

Readings for lung age, capacity and strength are then available in a mobile application, which makes the measurement something a patient can repeat at home rather than only in a consulting room.
